Applicable Licenses and Credit
Requirement Dates
The rules governing licenses issued in New York state have changed.
The state is no longer on a strict two year cycle pertaining to
specific licenses; instead, the renewal is now defined by the
licensee's birthdate.
The basics of the rules are as follows:
Any license issued after January 1, 2007 will have an expiration
date equal to the licensee's birthday, with the year depending on
whether he or she was born in an even or odd year. For example, if
your birthday is January 24, 1958, you will now renew your license
on your birthday in even numbered years.
Anyone receiving a
new license after January 1,
2007 will see their license expire on their next birthday.
A
renewalperiod must be at least
two years long, so existing LA licensees who renewed in June 2007
and PC licencees who renewed in June 2008 will have extended
renewal periods, which will expire on the next birthday after the
end of the current two year period.
For anyone renewing an
expiredlicense, the original license rule will apply and
the license will expire on the next birthday in the appropriate
even or odd year.
