Accounting Students Receive Scholarships

Queens, NY—On Wednesday, October 12th four accounting students from The Peter J. Tobin College of Business were chosen by the Department of Accounting and Taxation’s Student Affairs Committee (SAC) to receive $5,000 from the KPMG Stanley Shirk endowed scholarship fund. The scholarship award acknowledged the students’ tuition for the 2005-2006 academic year will be reduced by $5000 and was presented by Theresa Ahlstrom, a partner of KPMG.
Approximately 50 students braved the pouring rain and were in attendance at Marillac Terrace to congratulate recipients at the open Department Meeting hosted by Dr. Adrian P. Fitzsimons.
Jennifer Martinez and Vanessa Ryan, of the Staten Island campus; along with Aanuoluwapo (Aanu) Jalaoso and Travis Smith of the Queens campus were the recipients chosen by the Department of Accounting and Taxation’s Student Affairs Committee (SAC) based upon their academic achievements, financial need and service to the University.
Before the awards were presented, one representative from each of the four accounting student organizations, including Beta Alpha Psi, the National Accounting Honor Society; NABA, the National Association of Black Accountants; ALPFA, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting; and the Accounting Society; spoke of upcoming events and gatherings sponsored by their societies.
