The Main Library of St. John's University is in St. Augustine Hall, located on the Queens campus. Together with the collections of the Loretto Memorial Library on the Staten Island Campus, the Law School Library, the Oakdale Campus Library, and the Rome Campus Library, the total University Library collection numbers 1.7 million volumes, and includes more than 6,000 periodic subscriptions. These materials support course offerings, as well as students' cultural and recreational interests. The collection includes government documents and audiovisual materials.

Specific support for the study of business is provided by a collection of more than 63,422 book titles and 648 subscriptions to business periodicals. There is also an extensive collection of indexes, abstracts and full-text databases. These include ABI/INFORM, available through UMI/Proquest, LEXIS-NEXIS and OCLC First Search. The library houses specialized services, both in print and electronic formats, from Commerce Clearing House, Research Institute of America, Standard and Poor's, Dun and Bradstreet, and Value Line.
