Biography
Dr. Sotelo received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, her Master of Arts degree in School Psychology from Iona College in 1998 and 2001 respectively and subsequently worked as a full-time school psychologist.  In her work, Dr. Sotelo observed discrepancies between what was learned in her original training program and in her practice in the schools, particularly regarding the assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse individuals, and in the assessment of learning disabilities. A search for answers about these discrepancies brought her to St. John’s University where she completed coursework in fulfillment of the New York State requirements for bilingual school psychologists, and began work towards her doctorate in School Psychology which was conferred in 2007.  She then took a faculty position at St. John’s University to teach what she had learned.

Dr. Sotelo’s research interests include psychoeducational assessment and school psychology and social justice.  Professional affiliations include the American Psychological Association, National Association of School Psychologists, and the New York Association of School Psychologists.
