Donald J. Rosenberg `75 is Executive Vice President, General
Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Qualcomm Incorporated, one of
the telecommunications industry’s greatest start-up success
stories. Qualcomm has been in the Fortune 500 since 1999 and
has been one of Fortune’s “Most Admired Companies” each year since
2000. Forbes magazine has recognized Qualcomm in their
“Global 2000” for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Today, Qualcomm plays a central role in the rapid adoption and
growth of 3G and next-generation wireless around the world.
Qualcomm’s current intellectual property portfolio includes more
than 7,200 United States patents for wireless technologies, with
more than 145 telecommunications equipment manufacturers licensing
these technologies worldwide.
In his role as Chief Legal Officer, Rosenberg is responsible for
overseeing Qualcomm's worldwide legal affairs including litigation,
intellectual property and corporate matters. Acknowledging a strong
linkage between legal affairs and governmental relations,
Qualcomm's government affairs organization also reports to
Rosenberg.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, Rosenberg served as Senior Vice
President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Apple Inc.
Prior to that he was employed by IBM Corporation for over 30 years
where he held numerous positions including Senior Vice President
and General Counsel, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel
for litigation and counsel to IBM's mainframe division.
Rosenberg has had extensive experience in law department
management, litigation, securities, intellectual property and
competition issues. He has served as an adjunct professor of law at
New York's Pace University School of Law, where he taught courses
in intellectual property and antitrust law.
Rosenberg received a B.S. in Mathematics from the State
University of New York at Stony Brook and his J.D. from St. John's
University School of Law where he was an editor of the Law
Review.
