Issues Affecting America: Responsible Citizenship Fall 2008

Two of America’s best-known political pundits discuss and debate what is arguably one of the most important Presidential elections in American history. Michael Waldman and William Kristol will go head to head in an event that is open to students from St. John’s, Wagner College and the College of Staten Island. Also invited are high school students, civic leaders, local elected officials and their staffs, local political clubs and groups and the general public.

Michael Waldman is one of American’s leading experts on the presidency, politics, and public communications. He is a lecturer at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he teaches courses including “The Art of Communication,” “Rhetorical Leadership,” “Communication in a Time of Crisis’ and “Political Reform.” He was the Deputy Communications Director for the Clinton-Gore 1992 campaign, and then went on to serve as principal White House policy advisor on political reform. Mr. Waldman has worked as Special Assistant to the President for Policy Coordination, helping to lead the fight for the passage of NAFTA the battle of the budget during the government shutdown of 1995.

William Kristol is editor of the influential Washington-based political magazine The Weekly Standard. Widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading political analysts and commentators, Mr. Kristol regularly appears on FOX News Sunday and FOX News Channel. As an advocate for a strong American foreign policy, he has pushed forward the foreign policy debate since September 11, and continues to drive conversation as co-author of The New York Times’ bestseller The War Over Iraq. He edited the well-received anthology The Weekly Standard, A Reader: 1995 – 2005. In 2007, he was a regular columnist for TIME magazine. Mr. Kristol became a regular Op-Ed page columnist for The New York Times in 2008.
