Conversations on Teaching

Conversations on Teaching is a series of workshops dealing with basic elements in teaching at the college level. The program is specifically designed to assist new full-time and adjunct faculty, but almost any teacher could benefit from some of the topics covered.

The objective of these workshops is not to teach you everything about teaching, but to introduce tools that will help you to be effective in the classroom. There is no one "right way" to teach; each instructor must develop an individual style that suits them. But there are guidelines in planning the course, teaching, and managing it. It is on these guidelines that we will be focusing.

The three sessions deal with planning, teaching, and managing a course. Click below to access resources on each of these topics:

I - Planning the Course -- different approaches to teaching, constructing a syllabus, preparing to teach

II - Active Learning -- introduction to a number of active learning strategies to foster student engagement

III.- Classroom Management -- issues of time management, discipline, and assessment

IV - Technology  -- is now so central to teaching, we've created a technology web page to guide you to resources on the University's Web site as well as elsewhere on the Web

V - Publish and Flourish -- a guide to academic publishing

Remember: There is nothing as wonderful as teaching!
