Jamaica, NY - St. John's University's Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB) joined four other New York business schools as a founding member of the Student Committee of The New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) it was announced today. The Student Committee of NYSSA is an exciting and innovative way for finance students, both graduate and undergraduate, to become involved in experiential activities that support their classroom work at the Tobin College. The program affords aspiring analysts with greater exposure to, and understanding of, the finance and investment fields by offering them the extensive contacts and educational resources of NYSSA. The other four charter member schools are Seton Hall, Pace, Fordham and New York Universities.
As part of NYSSA, five TCB students will compete in the First Annual Investment Research Challenge on April 10, 2003, when they will present their securities research report focused on the subject company, Galaxy Nutritional Foods, to a panel of Wall Street investment experts chaired by Martin Fridson and including Byron Wien, Senior Investment Strategist, Morgan Stanley; Anne Briglia, Director, Fixed Income Strategies, Prudential, Inc.; and Stephen Canter, Chairman, CEO and COO, The Dreyfus Corporation.
"Being selected as a charter member of this initiative is not only a great honor, but of priceless benefit to our students," said Dr. Therese Pactwa, Assistant Professor, in the Tobin College Department of Economics and Finance. "We are very excited and enthusiastic about the ongoing Challenge and confident that our students will proudly represent the University and gain valuable experience in this endeavor." Dr. Pactwa is joined by Dr. Matthew Wong and Dr. Keith Moore from the Tobin College in spearheading the NYSSA effort.
Among the opportunities available to students is the Society's Scholarship Education, Mentorship, Internship (SEMI) program. Launched in 1997, this program affords aspiring analysts with greater exposure to, and understanding of, the finance and investment fields by offering them the extensive contacts and resources of NYSSA through formal mentoring and internship programs.
