St. John's University Students Finish in Top 10 in National Advertising Competition for Third Straight Year

June 19, 2003

Jamaica, NY - St. John's University's "Storm Front advertising team" recently placed seventh in a field of sixteen finalists in the annual National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and held recently in Los Angeles. This marks the third year in a row, and the seventh time in 13 years, that students from the Tobin College of Business have competed in the national final round.

"Qualifying for the finals was a great reward for all of the hard work our team put in, but I think the best part for all of us is that it was such a great real-world learning experience," said Pascale Cardozo, one of the team presenters.

"I'm very proud of this team and of the fact that this is the third year in a row St. John's University has gone to the national finals," said Richard Klein, assistant professor and team advisor in the Tobin College of Business at St. John's University. "We're one of just a few schools in the history of the competition to make the finals three years in a row."

The StormFront advertising team is made up of 17 people and includes students from the Tobin College of Business and graphic artists from St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Studies. Five students made a 20-minute presentation to judges from Saatchi & Saatchi and the 2003 sponsor of the competition, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. The St. John's team outlined their national marketing and communications strategy to build greater awareness of the Toyota Matrix, a revolutionary cross-over utility vehicle.
